Pavlik Harness Outfit Ideas

For the first two weeks baby girl was in the Pavlik harness, she had to wear it 24/7 and never took it off. This meant she had to wear it under her clothes and most of her newborn/0-3 month clothes did not fit.

Here are some options to help with outfits over the Pavlik harness:

Regular onesies in larger sizes

Mostly, we ended up breaking out some of her 6 month + onesies, so that they were large enough to fit over the harness and not compress the straps of the harness at her hips.

Large Sweaters

We also bought some large sweaters that could easily go over the Pavlik harness without putting any pressure on her straps. An extra large sweater and bow were so cute!

Fuzzy Socks

Since her feet were covered by the booties of the Pavlik harness, we bought some fuzzy socks in larger sizes that could go over the booties and up to her knees. They helped keep the bootie part of the harness clean, since the socks were easy to take off and wash. It also helped protect our clothes/blankets/etc from the velco on the booties.

Harem Pants

We didn't end up using these, but if you are looking for a pant option that works over the Pavlik harness, take a look at Harem style pants. You will probably need to size up as well.

Amazon has many options:

Little Hippy Co.

A Canadian company, Little Hippy Co., has clothing designed specifically for babies in harnesses and other braces. They offer pajama loungers and pants with plenty of room to accommodate the harness.

Harness strap covers

Since the harness straps were directly touching her skin, we bought some harness covers from Etsy to help prevent rubbing. They can also be removed and washed.

The Etsy seller, Starfish Babes, is a mama that had a hip dysplasia baby and started her shop to help out other babies. This shop offers cute patterned harness covers, rhino brace leg cuffs, and fun "Hip Hip Hooray, Healthy Hip" signs. This is the shop we ended up getting harness covers from.

Other Etsy sellers offer other pattern options for Pavlik harness covers.

Winter Jumpsuits

Being from Southern California, we didn't need any clothing suitable for very cold weather, but I did come across an etsy store, FixHips, that has a variety of pants and jumpsuits made specifically to go over harnesses.

Other options include to buy regular larger sized jumpsuits. Hopefully they can still fit when they are out of the harness! We did this with a cute teddy bear jumpsuit outfit that was a gift. It didn't fully close between the legs, but was roomy enough for her to wear it the one time we were in the mountains.

Other Pavlik Related Items

An Etsy seller, OrthoBaby, runs a shop that includes not only harness covers, but other fun items to make the journey for your little one more bearable. This shop includes toy accessories that are more inclusive of a variety of orthopedic conditions, including walkers, boots, braces, crutches, etc. The shop also offers some printable options to track your little one's hip dysplasia journey.

Not Pavlik specific, but if you end up needing a Spica table for a casted babe, the Esty Shop, BabyBeeDDH, has spica table plans.

There are a ton of other retailers and small businesses that offer clothing that can work for a baby in a Pavlik harness. Just spend a bit of time looking around!
